I was not always this loving and excepting of people and from time to time, I find myself angered by peoples' lack of knowledge, understanding and reading ability. I often say I am a "jack of all trades and a master of none"; this statement is both true and false. I am a jack of many trades but I have mastered one, "Myself."
As Homo Sapiens (knowing beings), we have the ability to control every emotion we feel and every thought we express.
When someone addresses you, you have in that moment tools to hear, interpret and respond accordingly; with the understanding that regardless of whether or not the person in which you are speaking is hostile, you can be respectful. My mom said, "when you master language and communicating, you can insult someone and have them thank you for it."
If you have a mastery of language, you can use words like ignorant and racist without offending someone; when truth is presented, a wise man welcomes knowledge, while a fool argues in ignorance. Those that lack wisdom and understanding are easily offended and will mock those of different beliefs because they lack in knowledge.
The Golden Rule says do unto others, this means allowing people to express themselves without the fear of ridicule. If someone is gay but you are not, what does it matter to you? If someone loves God and you do not believe, why must you attempt to kill their faith and "enlighten" them.
Let me Enlighten you, a persons reality is based on the things which they have experienced and perceived; NO TWO PEOPLE PERCEIVE THE SAME EVENT IN THE SAME MANNER. No person is right or wrong in what they perceive, however it is possible to be lacking in information, that would change your perception.
Those that do not believe the words of the bible, do not understand history and theology; those that pollute the Mother Earth, do not understand ecology and biology. When you understand a great many things it simplifies how you perceive mans existence; division is no longer, rich and poor, black and white. It is those that seek knowledge and those that continue to be a slave to ignorance.
The answer to ignorance is Love; to love is to understand, to communicate, to help, to shelter, to feed, to cloth, to bathe, to humble before, to listen, to accept, to include, to journey with, to protect and to provide knowledge and wisdom.
If we approach everyone we meet with this definition of love, we will cure ignorance; we will have taught many to fish so they can be feed for a lifetime.
